Does pancreatitis show in blood test

I am looking for some help regarding whether pancreatitis shows up in a blood test. I have been told by my doctor that it can be a sign of pancreatitis, but I am not sure how reliable this information is. Has anyone had experience with this type of test? If so, what were the results? What other symptoms should I look out for? Any advice or information would be greatly appreciated.

What is Pancreatitis?

Pancreatitis is a condition in which the pancreas becomes inflamed. This inflammation can cause pain and damage to the organ. It can be acute (short-term) or chronic (long-term). The most common causes of acute pancreatitis are gallstones and alcohol abuse. Other causes include infections, certain medications, trauma, and certain metabolic conditions.

Can Pancreatitis be Detected in a Blood Test?

Yes, pancreatitis can be detected in a blood test. The test looks for elevated levels of two enzymes, lipase and amylase, which are both produced by the pancreas. Elevated levels of these enzymes can indicate pancreatitis. Other tests, such as imaging tests or endoscopic procedures, may be necessary to confirm the diagnosis.
