"Hi everyone,

I'm new to the forum and I'm looking for some help. I have a question about AST levels and whether they fluctuate daily. I know that AST levels can vary from person to person, but I'm wondering if they also vary from day to day. I haven't been able to find much information about this online, so I'm hoping some of you might have some insight.

Does AST Fluctuate Daily?

AST (Aspartate Aminotransferase) is an enzyme found in the liver and is used as an indicator of liver health. It is often used to diagnose liver damage, such as from alcohol abuse, viral hepatitis, or drug toxicity. The level of AST can fluctuate daily depending on a variety of factors, including lifestyle, diet, stress, and medication.

Lifestyle

The lifestyle choices of an individual can affect AST levels. For example, excessive alcohol consumption can lead to elevated AST levels due to liver damage. Additionally, physical activity can increase AST levels, as the body needs more energy to perform the activity.

Diet

The type of food consumed can also affect AST levels. Foods high in fat and cholesterol can cause the liver to work harder to process these substances, which can lead to elevated AST levels. Additionally, some medications, such as statins, can cause an increase in AST levels.

Stress

Stress can also cause an increase in AST levels. The body produces hormones in response to stress which can increase the activity of the enzyme. Additionally, stress can lead to poor diet and lifestyle choices, which can further increase AST levels.

Medication

Certain medications can lead to increased AST levels. These include acetaminophen and aspirin. Additionally, some antibiotics, such as amoxicillin, can also cause an increase in AST levels.

In conclusion, AST levels can fluctuate daily depending on lifestyle, diet, stress, and medication. It is important to maintain a healthy lifestyle in order to keep AST levels within a normal range. Additionally, it is important to discuss any medications or supplements with a doctor before taking them, as they may affect AST levels.
