Does asphyxiation mean death

I'm looking for help understanding if asphyxiation always means death. I heard that it can cause brain damage too, is that true? I'm really curious about the long-term effects of asphyxiation and if it's always fatal.

Asphyxiation and Death

Asphyxiation is the condition of being unable to breathe due to a lack of oxygen or an excess of carbon dioxide in the body. It can lead to unconsciousness or even death if not treated promptly and appropriately. It is important to note that asphyxiation does not always result in death; however, it can be fatal in certain situations.

Hypoxia is a type of asphyxiation caused by a lack of oxygen in the body. It can occur due to a number of factors, such as altitude sickness, anemia, and suffocation. Without sufficient oxygen, the body's cells are unable to function properly and can eventually lead to death.

Hypercapnia is a type of asphyxiation caused by an excess of carbon dioxide in the body. This can result from conditions such as asthma, pulmonary edema, and sleep apnea. Hypercapnia can cause confusion, dizziness, and even death if left untreated.

In both cases, asphyxiation can be fatal if not immediately treated. Immediate medical attention is necessary for anyone experiencing symptoms of asphyxiation. If death does occur due to asphyxiation, it is usually due to hypoxia or hypercapnia.
