Did Jesus Raise the Dead?
The Bible is full of stories of Jesus performing miracles, including healing the sick, calming storms, and even walking on water. But did Jesus also raise the dead? There are a few stories in the Bible that suggest he did.
The Raising of Lazarus
One of the most famous stories of Jesus raising the dead is the story of Lazarus. In John 11, Jesus hears that his friend Lazarus is ill. By the time Jesus gets there, Lazarus has already died. Jesus tells those gathered around the tomb to roll away the stone, and he calls out to Lazarus, saying, “Lazarus, come out!” At Jesus’ command, Lazarus comes out of the tomb, alive.
The Widow’s Son
In Luke 7, Jesus is approached by a widow whose son has died. She pleads with Jesus to heal her son, and at Jesus’ touch, the boy comes back to life.
Jairus’ Daughter
Another story of Jesus raising the dead is found in Mark 5. A synagogue ruler named Jairus approaches Jesus and begs him to heal his daughter, who has died. Jesus goes with Jairus to his home and tells the girl to get up. At Jesus’ command, the girl gets up and is alive again.
These stories in the Bible suggest that Jesus did indeed raise the dead. While there is no way to know for sure, these stories offer us a glimpse into the power of Jesus and the miracles he was able to perform.
