Can lymphoma cause autoimmune hemolytic anemia

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for some help regarding the connection between lymphoma and autoimmune hemolytic anemia. Can lymphoma cause autoimmune hemolytic anemia, or is there no connection between them? If there is a connection, what does it entail? Are there any treatments that can help? I'm new to this topic so any advice or information from anyone with knowledge or experience would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Can lymphoma cause autoimmune hemolytic anemia?

Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AHA)

Autoimmune hemolytic anemia (AHA) is an autoimmune disorder where the body’s immune system attacks its own red blood cells (RBCs). This results in anemia, which is a decrease in the number of red blood cells and hemoglobin in the body. AHA can be caused by many things, including infections, certain drugs and certain medical conditions, such as lymphoma.

Lymphoma

Lymphoma is a type of cancer that affects the lymphatic system, a part of the immune system. It is characterized by the uncontrolled growth of lymphocytes, a type of white blood cell. Lymphomas can be either Hodgkin or non-Hodgkin, depending on the type of white blood cell that is affected.

Can Lymphoma Cause Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia?

The answer is yes. Lymphoma can cause AHA by two main mechanisms. First, the cancer cells themselves can directly damage the red blood cells, leading to anemia. Second, some lymphomas can cause the body to produce antibodies that attack the red blood cells, leading to AHA. Therefore, it is important to be aware of the possibility of AHA in those who are diagnosed with lymphoma.
