Can anyone help me understand if humans can survive 100% oxygen? I've read some articles that suggest it's possible, but I'm not sure how it works.

Can Humans Survive 100% Oxygen?

Humans require oxygen to survive, but too much of a good thing can be deadly. We typically breathe air that is around 21% oxygen, and while we can survive with less, it is not recommended. So, what would happen if humans were exposed to pure oxygen, or 100% oxygen?

Hypoxia is a condition where the body is deprived of oxygen, and it can have serious medical implications. Conversely, hyperoxia is a condition caused by breathing too much oxygen, and it can also have serious medical implications. Hyperoxia can occur in a number of ways, such as hyperbaric oxygen therapy or even simply breathing in too much oxygen in a sealed environment.

Hyperoxia can cause a variety of symptoms, such as confusion, nausea, and headaches. It can also cause more serious issues, such as seizures, tremors, and even coma. In extreme cases, it can be fatal. So, can humans survive 100% oxygen?

The short answer is yes, humans can survive in an environment with 100% oxygen. However, it is not recommended, as prolonged exposure can cause serious health issues, and in extreme cases, death. In order to avoid hypoxia or hyperoxia, it is important to maintain a healthy balance of oxygen and other gases in the air.
