Are CO2 canisters explosive

I'm hoping someone can help me out here. I'm trying to figure out if CO2 canisters are explosive or not. I know they contain pressurized gas, but I'm not sure if there's any risk of an explosion. I'm worried because I plan on using some for a new project and I want to make sure I'm taking the proper safety precautions. Does anyone have experience using CO2 canisters and know if they can be dangerous? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
